Fasting
What is fasting?
Fasting is the period of time in between your meals. For example, when you eat dinner, you might โbreak your fastโ during "breakfast" the next day.
For example, If I eat at 8pm and then eat again at 8am the next day, I have a 12 hour fast.
We have evolved to fast
I was fascinated learning about fasting as part of our human evolution. The body has learned how to fast through thousands of years of food shortages. Humans as hunter and gatherers would often have to go months without food. Because of this, our bodies have a natural built in ability to fast.
As part of my natural diet and natural way of thinking, I want to adopt our natural ability to fast.
When I fast, I feel great**
When I fast for more than ~18 hours, I feel great. I don't feel hungry and I feel that my body doesn't require food. This is an empowering feeling.
My fasting schedule
My preferred daily fasting window is between 16 hours and 18 hours. I try to delay breakfast for as long as possible to increase my fasting time. 16-18 hours works well for daily fasting value.
Iโve done a few 22-24 hour fasts. This is a major accomplishment for myself since I always identified myself as an โalways hungryโ person. I used to need breakfast within 1-2 hours of waking up. If I didnโt eat in the morning, I would feel sick and โoffโ the whole day. Going 24 hours makes me feel like superman.
I regularly skip my traditional breakfast meal, or have it later in the day. Itโs common for me to eat two meals per day between 12pm and 7pm. This hits the 16-18 fasting window.
